Oh là là! What a fantastic day we had for French Day. It all started off with freshly baked croissants, which went down a treat. We all learnt about France and what it is famous for. Reception and KS1 had a French lesson with our wonderful French language ambassadors from Year 6. These students were fantastic at engaging the children and encouraging them to speak French. Not only are they great linguists, but there are some future teachers in the making.
The ice cream van arrived and every pupil got to go outside and ordered their ice cream in French. It was amazing to see such wonderful manners from all of the pupils. The younger pupils were amazed that they were able to order something for themselves too. We then enjoyed the ice creams in the sun with our classes and even played some boules or French playground games in the sunshine.
We rounded off the day learning about the artist Matisse and created some amazing cut out pictures using some of the typical forms that he used like fronds of seaweed and zigzags. They were even able to write about their compositions in French too.
As one Year 4 remarked, “It was the best French day ever!”
