SIP Priorities

We have worked hard on our School Improvement Plan this year. We have centred the whole plan around maximizing teaching and learning opportunities at our school. Monitoring of the plan happens in a variety of ways: lesson observation, planning trawls, looking at books and pupil interviews to name a few.

The four areas of the School Improvement Plan are ties into the 4 Governor committees to ensure accountability and robust monitoring:

1.       Personnel, Teaching and Learning- To ensure that all teaching and learning is at least good

2.       Curriculum and Achievement- The teaching and learning of writing

3.       Amenities and Facilities- To develop teaching skills in ICT and develop use of resources

4.       Leadership and Management- To ensure that middle leaders in school are involved in monitoring standards.

& Our Progress

Progress:

1.       To achieve at least good teaching in all classrooms remains at the core of what we strive for. This year, we have a focus on the use of the outdoor areas to develop the learning of all the children across the curriculum. We have had Forest Schools training and have a ‘Forest Friends’ staff group who will be leading the development and use of our outdoor learning facilities.

2.       We will continue to look at effective practice in the teaching of writing. This involves Pie Corbett’ s work on talk for writing and we will also be fcussing strongly on the key skills of grammar, punctuation and spelling.

3.       We are very lucky to have excellent resources at Kings Hill for ICT, but with ICT things move on so quickly! Mrs Hitchmough will be working with staff on a term by term basis, updating skills and ensuring that all staff are able to use the resources that we have and teach the skills that the children require to the highest standard.

4.       We are looking at developing the skills of our foundation subject teacher to enable them to effectively lead their subjects across the school. We are also involving subject leaders and phase leaders in whole school monitoring so that they are clearly aware of whole school issues and are well placed to support colleagues in reaching their challenging targets.
