Science

In Science Year 3 have been learning about Rocks and Soils. So far we have looked at different rocks and became Rock Investigators. We scoured the school grounds for different kinds of rocks and found some great examples to test in our science lessons.

We have been learning about Igneous, Metamorphic, and Sedimentary rocks and other rocks such as granite, slate and marble. Our Science work has been complemented by our learning about Volcanoes in our literacy lessons.

In our Science investiations we have tested the rocks and soils we found for:

·         Hardness, using our fingernails and paperclips to see how hard or soft each rock was and using liquids such as coke, vinegar and water to see how quickly chalk dissolved in each.

·         Permeablility, by performing a test on different soils using a funnel and filter paper, to see how long it took for a measured amount of water to filter into the container underneath. During this test we compared the Kings Hill soil we dug up ourselves with other soils our teachers provided for us.

In Year 3 we love being rock and soil investigators!
