Grow Bags

After Easter Year 3 started their Grow Bag topic, which has proved to be very popular with the children in Penguin and Polar Bear classes.  Initially the children learnt about how seeds grow into plants and the conditions required for this to happen.
They looked at the instructions on seed packets and learnt about:

• When to sow the seeds,
• Where the plants preferred to be (sun or shade),
• How far apart to plant them,
• How much water they would need to give to the plants, and
• When the fruits and vegetables would be ready to eat.

Once they had learnt how to look after the plants the children split into groups and planted their chosen seeds in grow bags situated on the playground outside their classrooms.

They are now busy watering their plants, re-potting as necessary and charting the progress of their plants on a classroom display.

Year 3 children have also enjoyed making information booklets on the fruits and vegetables. Once completed, the children spent a very enjoyable session sharing their booklets with our Reception children and answering their questions.

The plants are growing really well this year and we can’t wait to eat the fruits of our hard work!
