Our
Established September 1997
Kings Hill School opened with an initial intake of 89 pupils, our roll is now over 400. The school was built in response to the needs of Kings Hill, a major development on the West Malling Airfield Site.
Our school is pleasant and attractive. The building is an unusual linear design culminating in a round hall at one end – reminiscent of a Kentish Oast House. This additional facility was made possible by a donation from the site developers. All classrooms have direct access to the playground.
The original building, Phase I, consisted of seven classrooms, hall, admin offices, kitchen and service areas. Phases II and III together have given us another seven classrooms and additional toilet facilities. It also included a community room and music and special educational needs rooms. This part of the project costing £65,000 was funded directly by Kings Hill School.
Phase IV was completed in September 2009, this gave us an additional hall, which doubles up for school performances, and as an extension to our main school hall. Phase IV also introduced extension to our kitchen and servery area - which we had far outgrown. This brings us to the end of our building programme.
History
The outside learning environment consists of:
- a hard play area, with markings and a seating area
- a basketball net
- a secure area for the Reception class and Year 1
- a wooden adventure playground
- picnic benches
- pondlife/environmental studies area
There are beautiful wooded grounds with a playing field behind. Plans for the future include a science trail and orienteering trail.
Over the last two years we have added to our outdoor area, and we now have an outdoor classroom secluded in a wooded area, as well as a nature trail which takes you to a clearing where a class can gather to discuss their surroundings.
