Award winning Book Week 2016
What a fantastic time we all had during Book Week 2016! This year’s theme was another favourite British novel; Rudyard Kipling’s The
Jungle Book! The theme provided fabulous opportunities for creative lessons and plenty of cross-curricular learning throughout the week. The children produced some amazing writing, as well as some other fantastic cross-curricular! The children also enjoyed a week of exciting events such as a Theatre Show, Read Together Mornings, Outdoor Art and Crafts and a Jungle Themed Dress Up Day!
The week began with a fantastic theatre show by a wonderful theatre group called Gary Starr Productions. We booed Shere Khan and helped Mowgli safely to the Man-Village! We even joined in with “The Bare-Necessities!” A super show to launch Book Week with!
Outdoor Art and Craft Workshops
On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, we enjoyed some fantastic art and crafts taught by Mrs Gillman. Children in reception up to year 3 made the characters Kaa and King Louie from The Jungle Book, using outdoor resources, paper plates and paint.
‘Read Together’ Mornings
We were delighted to see so many parents coming into school to read with the children. Some parents bought in a favourite book of theirs from home, whilst some children asked their parents to read books from our book corners. We even enjoyed a little treat whilst we listened!
Jungle Stories with Raggedy Jack
Our favourite storyteller, Raggedy Jack, returned to tell us some fascinating stories! We were enthralled! They were based around the theme “Jungle Explorers!”
